How do I build a marketplace like Airbnb?
Airbnb is a booking marketplace: hosts list a place, guests pick dates and pay online, and the platform keeps a fee on every stay. The same mechanics run a marketplace for cabins, studios, campervans or camera gear. Here is how to build one on Kreezalid, and what Airbnb has that you will have to build yourself.
The short answer
A marketplace like Airbnb is a rental marketplace: the same listing is booked again and again for a period, so it needs an availability calendar, a price per night or per day, often a deposit, and a payout to the host after each stay. The operator earns a commission on every booking. On Kreezalid these mechanics are built in; you start from a rental template and open in about 7 days, without code.
The five features it needs
- Availability calendar. Guests see free dates, and two bookings can never overlap.
- Duration-based pricing. A rate per night, day, week or month, with the total shown before payment.
- Deposits. A refundable hold that protects hosts against damage.
- Host profiles and reviews. A page per host, and a review after every stay, in both directions.
- Payments and payouts. The guest pays at booking; the host is paid out with your commission deducted.
- a month to build it in private, on the Build plan
- €39
- from a template to a marketplace you can open
- ~7 days
- of free trial, no credit card
- 14 days
What Airbnb actually does
Airbnb’s product is a calendar with a payment attached. Everything else is trust.
Listings with dates
A host sets a nightly rate, minimum stay and blocked dates. Guests search by destination and dates and only see what is free.
Instant book or a request
Some listings are booked on the spot; others ask the host to accept first. The host chooses.
Payment at booking, payout after check-in
The guest pays Airbnb when the booking is confirmed. The host is paid after the stay begins, minus Airbnb’s fee.
Two-sided reviews
Guests rate the stay; hosts rate the guest. Both are published, which keeps both sides on their best behaviour.
Search on a map
Results are drawn on a map with their price, and filtered by amenities: Wi-Fi, parking, pets, number of guests.
Protection programmes
Damage cover for hosts and a guarantee for guests, funded by the platform and handled by its own support teams.

How to build it on Kreezalid, in 7 steps
A rental marketplace is the model Kreezalid’s rental solution is built for, so most of these steps are settings rather than work.
Choose what is being rented, and a rental template. Holiday homes in one region, artists’ studios by the day, campervans, photography gear. Start from the Spaces & venues or Peer-to-peer rental template, which arrive with the booking flow configured.
Design the listing with its amenities. Attributes per category — capacity, bedrooms, Wi-Fi, parking, pets allowed — plus a photo gallery and house rules. Guests filter on them.
Set availability and pricing. Each listing has a real-time calendar that prevents double bookings. Rates per night, day, week or month; the Advanced Calendar app adds hourly slots and syncs Google or Apple calendars for hosts.
Choose the booking flow and the deposit. Instant booking or a request the host accepts, and a refundable deposit per listing to protect hosts. Both are settings, not development.
Connect payments and set your commission. Stripe Connect takes the guest’s payment at booking, keeps your commission and pays the host out automatically. Set the rate per booking.
Add the map, host pages, reviews and messaging. Search by location with results on a map (Google Maps or Mapbox apps), a public page per host, reviews after each stay, and an inbox so guests ask before they book.
Brand it, recruit your first hosts, open. Theme editor, your own domain with SSL, your cancellation and damage policies written down, then invite hosts while the marketplace is private and switch to Launch when the first listings are live.
Rentals come with their own risks. Deposits cover everyday damage; for the rest, read which insurance a peer-to-peer rental marketplace needs.

What you will not get
Airbnb spends billions on what sits around the calendar. Four of those things are yours to arrange.
A host-protection programme
There is no equivalent of Airbnb’s damage cover or guest guarantee in the software. Deposits handle small claims; for the larger ones you take out insurance or partner with an insurer.
Identity verification at scale
Kreezalid gives you user approval, profiles and reviews. ID document checks are not built in; add them through a specialist service via the API if your niche requires them.
Airbnb’s demand
Guests do not search your marketplace yet. A tight geography or asset type, SEO on each listing and your hosts’ own channels bring the first bookings.
Dynamic pricing
Hosts set their rates by duration and season themselves. There is no algorithm adjusting prices to demand, as Airbnb’s smart pricing does.

Building a marketplace like Airbnb: FAQ
